Dr. Jimmy Yu was born in Fujian Province, China. He grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the United States for higher education. He received a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from St. Martin’s College in 1980 and a Ph.D. Degree from the University of Idaho in 1985. Dr. Yu returned to Hong Kong in 1995 after teaching at University of Puget Sound and Central Missouri State University. He is now Professor of Chemistry and Director of Environmental Science Programme at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a top ranking university in Asia. He has made outstanding achievements in research related to environment and nanotechnology, particularly in solving environmental problems by photocatalysis. His research publications have received over 5000 citations, and he was conferred a State Natural Science Award of China in 2005. Prof. Yu holds six patents on the fabrication and applications of nanomaterials. Air and water treatment systems based on his inventions are commercially available.
